Céu, one of Brazil’s freshest national exports and most moving performers, is coming to town. Her most recent album, Vagarosa, is a seductive mix of minimal instruments lead by an undeniably sultry voice. The album offers a blues-influenced tapestry with textures of experimental electronic sounds, all held together with that brilliant Brazilian base.
Her influences range “from Fela Kuti to Miles Davis, from The Roots to Massive Attack, from M’shell Ndegeocello to Portishead, as well as Brazilian composers such as Tom Jobim, Baden Powell and Egberto Gismonti.”
